Why Do People Feel Depressed
Sunday, November 23rd, 2008    Subscribe To Our FeedIt takes months or even years to cure or manage serious depression, a real mental illness. Millions of Americans across the United States are affected by depression each and every year. To make things worse it is estimated that only a third of those who suffer the disease will ever seek treatment. Because depression is considered a mental affliction, many sufferers shy away from seeking help from a doctor. Rather than being stereotyped, people would rather try to beat depression themselves. Depression is more common- place than you might think and it will not go away on its own.
So, what causes depression? There are many factors to consider, so the answer isn’t simple. Depression can be a long story because of many issues. Let’s list a few of the contributing factors to depression. A chemical imbalance is widely considered to be the main cause for depression. This may be the case, but what causes that imbalance? Typically the causes stem from biological, genetic, physical, mental and environmental implications. In many cases the underlying cause is never identified. Many become depressed when they are diagnosed with a very serious medical condition. This is especially the case if the diagnosis presents the possibility of death or impairment.
Depression can also stem from the emotional pain when a close person dies. Everyone knows such losses are serious. Long periods of emotional, sexual or other physical abuses can result in depression. When people abuse drugs and/or alcohol the result is often depression. Even a perfectly healthy person, when exposed to the right combination of events and issues, can become afflicted with chronic depression. In many cases depression is passed on genetically. A strong correlation between family history of depression and current depression has been found . Oddly, many drugs including those that regulate depression or anxiety can cause depression. High blood pressure medication can result in depression.
Depression can result from stress. In our lives many events and elements can cause stress. Even positive events such as a marriage, a new baby or winning an award can cause stress. People tend to stress when they face the unknown, like a new job or new financial obligations. In addition, many are stressed from personal conflicts with their loved ones, associates in employment or friends. There are a great number of people who are stressed from simply trying to perform their jobs to satisfaction and trying to support their families from week to week. Knowing is half the battle as you need to determine the the symptoms of depression. If you or someone you love suffers from depression-please seek medical assistance.
